Going Through Changes

It's Spring soccer season and Joshua is once again a Purple Sea Monster. Coach Cindy is not coaching this season so we now have Coach Alex. One slight problem...I forgot to tell Joshua about the coaching change BEFORE he attended his first practice.

Practice started a few weeks ago. Scott took him to his first practice and I had to run a few errands before I went. When I got there, Scott had Joshua by the hand running across the field with him. When the kids and coach sat in a circle, Joshua had to sit on Scott's lap. Joshua was not happy with his old coach being gone and a new coach being there.

The second practice, I took him. Before we left Joshua said his stomach hurt...I offered to give him medicne and have him go to bed or go to the doctor...He decided it wasn't his stomach after all, it was his leg that hurt. We went to practice anyway. I walked him onto the field and went back to my chair. He did fine for a while but then ran the wrong way...after that, he wanted to sit in my lap. I wouldn't let him...I told him that if he wanted to sit and rest, he could sit beside me, on his ball, not on my lap. A few minutes later he went back out.

Next practice, I took him again, Scott stayed home. Once again, I had to make him go onto the field, he wanted me to stay with him saying that "Daddy did." Well, I am not Daddy and this is not Mommy/Daddy soccer, this is 5 year old soccer...He played....until Coach called him Batman (ok, note to self, no more character shirts to soccer practice)...then, he wanted to sit in my lap. Once again, if he wanted to sit and rest, he had to sit beside me, on his ball, not in my lap. A few minutes later he went back out.

We have been talking about having a new coach and how he is now learning real 5 year old soccer and Coach Cindy only taught him 4 year old soccer. He bought it...we'll see...

On the bright side of soccer, there are 3 boys from his team last season that returned. Matthew, Parker and Ryan will all be starting Kindergarten at the same time and at the same school as Joshua. It was good to see some familiar kids and some familiar moms at practice. Matthew even plays T-ball through the YMCA, which Joshua will be doing this summer.

Joshua enjoys playing soccer. He isn't very aggressive at getting the ball and he isn't very good at keeping it close to him. He does, however, run faster than the other kids so when he kicks it out in front, he can get to it before one of the other kids takes it away. I guess we'll have to practice on his dribbling...

We haven't made it to a game yet this season. The first game, I was sick; second game, Joshua was sick; third game, rained out. Fourth game is this Saturday. Wish us luck!

We went through this with Katie. She has had the same swim instructor forever and this time she has someone else. I tried the whole, he taught 4yo's thing and so she said she wanted to go back to being 4 then...haha...backfire.
