I must say that, yesterday, I was rather proud of Joshua. We were discussing our dinner options and he said he wanted ants on a log (celery, peanut butter and raisins) for dinner. I couldn't say no to his choice...for him. I, on the other hand do not like celery at all, I love peanut butter and I like raisins as long as they are in oatmeal cookies, bread pudding, Little Debbie Raisin Cakes, you get the idea...We didn't have any celery so we made a special trip to the store. And since I do not like celery, was not going to eat ants on a log for dinner. I had an overwhelming urge for, get ready for this, canned corned beef hash...I love corned beef hash. Not sure how or why I started eating it, my mother doesn't eat it, but I'm pretty sure I remember my grandma cooking it so I must get it from her...And yes, I know it looks strangely like canned dog food...I don't eat it very often, maybe twice a year, but last night, I knew that I had to have it.
Joshua was happily muching on his ants on a log while I was frying up my corned beef hash...I like it crispy...And while standing in front of the stove, I read the label on the can "...Our nourishing blend of diced potatoes and flavorful corned beef..." Blend of potatoes and corned beef I can believe, but nourishing? Each serving contains 440 calories, 30 g fat, 840 mg sodium. So, I decided I must not know the definition of nourishing. So, I googled, and according to dictionary.com, nourishing means "To provide with food or other substances necessary for life and growth; feed." Well, I guess 440 calories and 30g fat is necessary for life and growth if you are bear preparing to hibernate, but not so necessary if you are a hrmmm year old woman trying to maintain a somewhat moderately healthy lifestyle. But I still ate the entire contents, the entire 2 servings, without a care.
Thankfully, I do provide better food choices to my son I do to myself...And tonight, we're having roast beef, potatoes and green beans...
