Conversations with Joshua

I love having conversations with Joshua. I learn a lot about the funny mind of a 4 year old talking with him. Here are some conversations we had just today...well, yesterday now...

On What I want to be when I grow up:
Several months ago, Joshua announced he wanted to be a cowboy named Golden Pudding when he grew up. A few weeks ago, he decided he wanted to be a squid shooter...he told me that I could go in the submarine with him if I wanted to. Today, he decided he wanted to be an astronaut...the conversation went something like this
Mommy, can me and you ride on a spaceship sometime?
That would be fun wouldn't it. But you know what? Right now, not everyone can ride on a spaceship, only astronauts can.
Mommy, I changed my mind about being a squid shooter when I grow up
You did? What do you want to be when you grow up?
An astronaut silly. And you can be one too when you grow up if you want to.

On Babies:
Today after school, we went to Pelican's, along with Jessica-mom, Caitlin-4 yo, Camryn-soon to be 3 yo and Cassidy-soon to be 1 yo, for snoballs. I've driven by Pelican's thousands of times but never stopped. One day last week, Scott was going to pick Joshua up from school and I suggested they go to Pelican's and try it out...it was 100 degrees and thought they needed a treat...Well, Joshua is a big fan of snocones, Icees (is that how you spell the plural of Icee?) and such anyway, but now, I have created a snoball monster. It wasn't so bad when it was just snocones because those were only available at street fairs, arts and crafts fairs, State fairs, etc., snoballs are available 7 days a week! Sorry, I got sidetracked, back to my story about babies...this is our conversation in the car after leaving Pelican's.
Mommy, why she (meaning Jessica)have 3 babies?
Because she wants 3 babies.
Are you going to have 3 babies?
No, I'm not going to have 3 babies. Would you want a baby brother or sister?
Yea, I would like to have a baby brother, I don't want a baby sister?
What would you want to name a baby brother?
You could call him Joshua like me!
No, that would be confusing. I would say "Joshua, come here" and who would come?
You could name him Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones Johnson. I don't think that is a very good name.
He doesn't have Johnson in his name. Just Indiana Jones.
Well, if he was our baby in our family, he would have to have Johnson in his name because we have Johnson in our name.
Oh. How about Simon like Simon Says?

On Moving:
Jessica and her family are buying a new house and will soon be moving. Luckily, they are staying in the same area and not moving away.
I want to go to Caitlin's house again.
You want to see her new house?
No, her old house. I'm going to miss it. Is Caitlin going to miss it?
She might. But do you know what? Her new house is just down the street from her old house so she can walk there and see it.
And play with her toys too?
Oh, don't worry. All her toys and all her things are going to move into her new house with her.
Oh, ok. Good!!!

On Naps:
Are Sydney and Caitlin taking a nap right now?
I'm sure they are. Are you going to take a nap too?
No, I'm just going to take a little rest. Are they sleeping in their beds?
Yes, I'm sure they are. Do you want to take a rest in your bed?
No, I'm going to take a rest in my chair. That's what big boys do. Isn't it Mommy? Is that what big boys do?
I suppose so.
Are Sydney and Caitlin still asleep?
Probably.
Will you tell me when it is they wake up?
Sure.
I don't want to sleep if they are not asleep.
OK....(about 30 seconds later)...
Are they up yet?

All this and more in just one day. Parenting can be tiring...
